Robert Palmer - Sneaking Sally Through The Alley (1974)

___________________________________________________________________________

The next THREE songs remind me of my friend Renee from LSU as we were in school together and this is what we have as our bond.  More importantly, this brings me back to my time in the ARMY where I was away from friends but made ONE friend who I just was able to get back in touch with through the power of facebook....that friend is Ted Martin who is a Florida Gator and I hate the Gators but not him. We made it through a tough time in our lives....every time I hear these songs from THIS show it reminds me of that time. THIS BLOG IS DEDICATED TO GOOD TASTE - 80s ROCK Bands Pt. 1

"Since I was born they couldn't hold me down
Another misfit kid, another burned-out town

I never played by the rules and I never really cared
My nasty reputation takes me everywhere"

____________________________________________________

In honor of Jani Lane passing......here is a small collection of some of the BEST and worst of 80s hair bands.....and trust me there is a lot of bad....and the sound quality of many of these isn't the best but it is what makes these UNIQUE.  And I LOVE Album Covers especially from this era as they were so unique. I will try and post at least ONE song from each album.....and I KNOW I cannot cover all of them and will miss a TON but hey.....and watching these LIVE videos sums up the craziness and debatuchery of this time.....NEVER to be matched again.....

I AM GOING TO HAVE TO DO THIS IN 3 or 4 PARTS as there is just TOO MUCH to show you people....so with that said....here is Part 1 and since Jani Lane from Warrant died today....they are first.....

WARRANT

READ THIS (http://www.rockaaa.com/news/lifes-sweet-as-cherry-pie-for-warrant-5496)
This tells the TRUE STORY of the Cherry Pie album and why they were happy with the album BEFORE. Not that they didn't want success but at what cost?  Musical integrity......Just listen to Uncle Tom's Cabin (below)....BRILLIANT STILL to this day

Warrant - Down Boys (Live 1992)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYDGt4l1CIo

QUIET RIOT, DOKKEN, RATT, W.A.S.P and so on....

Quiet Riot - Metal Health (1983)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJChh7ghGnE&feature=related
and that album cover is KEY....they put him in both videos like Scorpions did a year earlier (see Scorpions below)

Quiet Riot - Cum On Feel The Noize (1983)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KW2J_UZ8lQU
....another song that ruled my life and many others....definitely was in the mix when metal was getting more popular in early 80s....

By the time 1986 came around Quiet Riot was kind of an afterthought as there were so many bands so this album wasn't that good....but I like the video and song....so fuck you if you don't ...

Quiet Riot - The Wild and The Young (1986)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrtKmjGjhro&feature=related

MöTLEY "FUCKING" CRüE

Just go and read "The Dirt" or "The Heroin Diaries" as I don't have time to list ALL of what these 4 fucking champions accomplished during the 80s in and out of hotel rooms, arenas and bars around the World.  They are LEGENDARY and if you were lucky enough to see the VH-1 Behind The Music....you get it.....without further intro I give MY best of the Crüe .....

Mötley Crüe - Live Wire (1981)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiVC89V4RpM

Mötley Crüe - Take Me To The Top (Live US Festival 1983)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPNxPF1aaL0&feature=related

Live version of this the vocals suck but just watch them young

To understand the album Shout At The Devil, you have to be a Freshman in HS who is just starting to discover girls, drinking (New Orleans) and life in general....and THIS FUCKING ALBUM comes out and I just had gotten over Iron Maiden's (see below) Number Of The Beast and Piece of Mind so WOW like a punch in the face it just grabbed me and said HERE YOU GO MOTHER FUCKER>>>>and then the video for Looks That Kill was EPIC
THE BAR HAS BEEN SET YET AGAIN!!!! and I might just post the album in the order I remember on vinyl

Mötley Crüe - In The Beginning / Shout At The Devil (1983)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ni2k9qOIcLA

Mötley Crüe - Looks That Kill (1983)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXRC5UPWDk4&feature=related

Mötley Crüe - Helter Skelter (Live US Festival 1983)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtzeCFYgjQg&feature=related

Obviously , albums had two sides so after Side One ends with Helter Skelter ends you flip it over and get this...

Mötley Crüe - Red Hot (1983)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rj_YYQ_2mI4&feature=related

Mötley Crüe - Too Young To Fall In Love (1983)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBxlAATrd-E

Mötley Crüe - Knock Em' Dead Kid (Live US Festival 1983)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vbq0E5AtUvg&feature=related

So how do you follow THAT album up?  You come out with Theatre Of Pain which to me isn't half as good as Shout And The Devil BUT stuck in the middle of the album is a little ballad named "Home Sweet Home"......and then ITS ON....the Unofficial / Official start of HAIR BANDS GALORE.....(see Warrant above and Cinderella / White Lion below)

Mötley Crüe -Louder Than Hell (1985)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wl7ZCohiRBY

So NOW bands are coming out of the woodwork and record companies are scouring the streets of L.A. to find the next hair band so as the Crüe, you have to stay HOT and stay out of trouble which they couldn't (see book read again)...

This album's first TWO songs (Wild Side and Girls, Girls, Girls) sum up this time PERFECT.....and Wild Side is arguably one of the BEST songs from this ERA...PERIOD.

Mötley Crüe - Wild Side (1987)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nm1BJPe-pg&feature=related\

"Thy kingdom come on the WILD SIDE"

Shannon Hoon of Blind Melon at 1:50, someone posted this on youtube..."I just read it in the Blind Melon book "A Devil on One Shoulder and an Angel on The Other" that he was at the show and the camera got a shot of him. How cool is that!!!"

To close out the 80s success they go and get with Legendary producer Bob Rock to release Dr. Feelgood which is not my personal favorite but THEIR BEST ALBUM.....just listen to the beginning bars of Feelgood and the chorus.....the harmonics and all.....WOW its fucking brilliant

Mötley Crüe - Dr. Feelgood (1989)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XHcPYorSJw&feature=related

Mötley Crüe - Same Ol' Situation (S.O.S.)(1989)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNpyRfzb4CY

...another GREAT video that captures Crüe at their pinnacle of touring

____________________________________________________

SCORPIONS

Another staple of the 80s and just kicked out hit after hit....formed by the Schenker brothers and Klaus Meine in like 1970....they didnt get huge in the US until MTV but the Germans were rocking to them way before we did.....The first video is one of the all time best videos as they took the album cover crazy looking guy and put him in the video....

Scorpions - No One Like You (1982)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaKkFz7G6rk&feature=related

Scorpions - Blackout (Live at Moscow Peace Festival)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sHaH6gImcA&feature=related

Scorpions - Bad Boys Running Wild (Live)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJQTIrWunc8

Scorpions - Rock You Like A Hurricane (1984)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxdmw4tJJ1Y&ob=av3e
Sophmore year of HS and this song RULED MY LIFE

Scorpions - Big City Nights (Live 1985)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmE_l_dN9UM&ob=av2e

____________________________________________________

OZZY FUCKING OSBOURNE

Really do I need to explain.....its not the 80s and its not 80s ROCK, 80s METAL or even 80s GLAM without Ozzy.  The man went solo from Black Sabbath where he was already a god and reinvented himself with classic after classic.    ENJOY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uS78Q1T8xa4

Ozzy - Bark At The Moon (1983)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFTzUvZJ0Rw&feature=related

and EVEN Ozzy teamed up with Lita Ford and this fucking rocks

Lita Ford - Close My Eyes Forever (1988 Featuring Ozzy)   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loyTCkV06xQ&feature=related

and its Lita Ford the Queen of 80s metal

SKID ROW

"Park Avenue Leads to Skid Row"

And around the same time as Warrant, we have Skid Fucking Row who blew up quick with Sebastian Bach's killer vocals and just trashy attitude.  Not really a hair band in the traditional but good looking lead singer and a couple of ballads.  But THEY ROCK also....Say whatever you want the guy can fucking sing.  (And they stirred up shit with the RAID - Kills Fags Dead T-shirt)

Skid Row - 18 and Life (Live at Budokan)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bp4Gklr6660

Skid Row - Youth Gone Wild (Live Moscow Peace Festival)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pI_FyBe7TI&feature=related

Skid Row - Piece Of Me (Live Moscow Peace Festival)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sea6dyZTejQ&feature=related

and without a DOUBT my ALL TIME favorite song from this era.....JUST KICKS FUCKING ASS

"To me its just monkey business"

Skid Row - Monkey Business (1991)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8_rq7bhbkQ

Slave to the Grind is notable for being the very first heavy metal album to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200.

___________________________________________________

For the sake of time and my sanity I will cut this off HERE but there is MUCH MORE to be seen and heard....TRUST ME....I hope you enjoyed it.....

PART II coming soon with bands such as TWISTED SISTER, CINDERELLA, WHITE LION, WHITESNAKE and GREAT WHITE  ....with a taste

This fucking video used to come on Night Flight on USA network and I used to be like "OH YEAH!!!"

...and it's before they hit big with the album Stay Hungry

LATER... PART III The Monsters of Rock.... Van Halen, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and so on....
