The 80s started with Punk/New Wave with bands such as The Jam, The Clash, The Ramones or The Alarm so if you had a band with "THE" in title there was a good chance you were NEXT.
And why NOT start with "The Only Band That Matters", The Clash. And probably the most recognizable album cover EVER. And why album covers need to be framed......I DO.....and this video is SO FUCKING COOL how they all rush up to mic together in unison....CLASSIC ON SO MANY LEVELS
The Clash - "London Calling" (1979)

If it wasn't for 120 Minutes on MTV I would not have heard of HALF of these bands but Dave Kendall took me on a musical journey every Sunday night from 11pm to 1am. And I thank him immensely to this day. VERY underrated songs and bands came from this era. NOTICE THE YEARS ON SOME OF THESE.
First song I learned to play drums to....

With MTV you saw it go further with Depeche Mode and so on but basically it was a LOT of ONE HIT WONDERS cause everyone was trying to cash in by getting their video on MTV.This video by Aldo Nova and the one by SAGA below it sum up EARLY 80s MTV.....that story that made the song much better.....
Aldo Nova - "Fantasy" (1981)

Then while I was searching for all of the above I stumbled upon these fucking gems and I gotta be honest these next few tunes are FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!
OH MY GOODNESS..
The Producers - "She Sheila" (1982)
The Producers - "What's He Got" (1981)
the next song from the same album just blew up in the New Orleans area. The Producers used to play the Riverboat President all of the time and I believe they even opened up for U2 back in the day....
The Producers - "I Love Lucy" (1981)
_______________________________________________________________
This next song I can actually remember the first time I heard it as I had just fallen into love for the first time and absolutely NOTHING could ruin my day.....It was played on 120 Minutes on MTV and like anything back in 1990, it was just smooth. Of course we joked about this song and this song ending up being perfect for the way we broke up....Now I am glad as my life is PERFECT.
The Cavedogs - "Leave Me Alone" (1990)
You will also notice that 1991 was a FUCKING phenomenal year for music as the bubble was about to burst with Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains....the following are a few of lesser known tunes that just blew me away because this was that psychedelic alternative type of music and the organs were KILLER!!!!
Kitchens Of Distinction - "Quick As Rainbows" (1991)
This next song I heard ONCE back in 1992 and was high as a kite. I heard it on DMX music service and forgot what the title was and it wasn't until LAST year I heard it again. But believe it or not I spent a good part of almost 20 years trying to remember. MUSIC does that to me.
The House Of Love - "You Don't Understand" (1992)
This video and the song just fucking ROCK!!!!!
The Charlatans UK - "The Only One I Know" (1990)
and I will leave you with this.....THIS is one of the best Alternative Rock songs of all time.....it just has everything you would want in a song....put on some headphones and listen to the sheer brilliance and beauty of this song.....especially the second verse with the little hammer hitting.....BRILLIANT!!!!
Peter Murphy - "Cuts You Up" (1990)
NEXT UP......MORE early 90s Classic Alternative Hits......I promise to deliver.....HAVE A GOOD THANKSGIVING......Here's a preview....
Midnight Oil - "Blue Sky Mine" (1990)
